Lars and the Real Girl was in the back of my mind the whole time I was writing this!! Can’t believe I’ve never heard of Simone but I love the trailer—def adding that to the watchlist
i love cynthia so much, she will endlessly fascinate me <3 i mean, she’s my profile pic on here and my phone wallpaper haha! i even wrote an ode to her for a class assignment once. your larger analysis is very thoughtful - i think mannequins in general always tell us a lot about the gender politics of when they were made and are so overlooked in art history + cultural analysis. great piece :) !!
omg, the Cynthia fascination lives on! I love that she’s your profile pic. The history of mannequins & gender politics is truly so interesting—I would have loved to dive into that even further! Thanks for reading ❤️
Those photos of Cynthia being dismantled were really jarring. It's bizzare to think that Cynthia-type- woman remains the forever obsession of society, 'the possesion of a woman as a whole' oof!
Weird artists and their weird art does give us as a society something to ponder over for sure. I wonder if Gaba's intentions with Cynthia were to also reflect what society actually values about women, if not his atleast your article very succinctly paints this picture.
Fascinating! this reminded me of three movies: Simone, Lars and the Real Girl and of course Mannequin!

What a freaky story! But sadly still so prescient...
Humans can be so weird! I find it fascinating that we keep repeating this pattern. Thanks for reading, Helen!
